From 1991 through 1996, Mr. Weissfeld initiated a series of lawsuits on behalf of more than 25 home owners in the Pacific Palisades section of Los Angeles, California. The lawsuits, against the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and the State of California were for damages to homes as a result of negligent maintenance of the defendants’ infrastructure, including streets, bridges, and sewer systems. This negligent maintenance undermined and caused structural damage to the homes, which resulted in the destruction and severe damage to the plaintiffs’ homes. After protracted litigation, the defendants settled with the plaintiffs in an amount in excess of $8 million.
